News Round-up Update

Shifting baseline syndrome surveys

Since June 2022, here at Purple Plover we have been publishing a monthly environmental news round-up. This has focused on a range of news items, from climate change and extreme weather events, through planning and legislation changes to research discoveries from the world of ecology.

Wind power
Renewables news has often featured in our news round-ups

As we get back to the office for the autumn and winter, however, we have decided to stop compiling this monthly news update and focus our blog posts in other areas. Part of our decision is based on the fact there are a healthy range of really great environment news digests out there already, all doing a much better job than we could hope to do! Some of these are weekly, some monthly, some free and some paid for. We’ve included some useful links below and they really are worth checking out. News round-ups like these are a great way to stay up to date with the latest developments across the field of ecology and the environment.

The field season is winding down for another year

Now that the survey season is winding down for another year, we will be back to releasing our non-news blog posts in the next month or two, so be sure to look out for those!

For an extremely comprehensive round-up of nature and conservation news from across the UK, look no further than the wonderful Inkcap Journal. Various UK news outlets have free, weekly newsletters. Our favourite is the Guardian’s Down to Earth email which comes out every Thursday. Covering both UK and international environmental and climate news, it is a useful round-up of the last week’s events. Sign-up for the newsletter here.

US based Ecowatch have been providing environment news bulletins for 20 years, focusing on everything from renewables and agriculture to climate and biodiversity. Their weekly newsletter is free and you can subscribe here.
